1. Academic Requirements: International students must meet the minimum academic requirements for admission. This typically includes the completion of a secondary school diploma or its equivalent with an equivalent of a minimum 70%-75% overall final average.
   Students may also need to complete Program-Specific Prerequisite courses. Transcripts should be in English or accompanied by an official English translation and sent to UPEI for evaluation.
2. English Language Proficiency: International students whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting valid test scores. Capilano University accepts various English language proficiency tests such as IELTS academic (6.5), TOEFL iBT (80), or equivalent.
   The minimum score requirements may vary by program.
   • The EAP program at UPEI is a rigorous language program aimed at UPEI students who need to enhance their English language proficiency in order to meet the admission criteria of the university. Its primary objective is to help students develop their academic English skills and build confidence, facilitating a smooth transition into university life. To successfully complete the EAP program, students are required to meet two criteria: 1) achieve satisfactory performance in their coursework, and 2) pass the final EAP exam. It is mandatory for EAP students to obtain a minimum grade of 70% in all EAP courses.
3.  Supporting Documents: Some programs may require additional supporting documents, such as personal statements, portfolios, work experience, letters of recommendation, or a resume/CV. These documents can help provide a comprehensive overview of the applicant’s qualifications and experiences.

Graduate Programs:

1.  Academic Requirements: International students are required to have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent when applying to a master’s program and a master’s degree when applying to a doctorate/Ph.D. program with an academic average as specified by the academic unit from a recognized university or college.
   Applicants must submit their official transcripts or academic records, including course grades and graduation certificates. If these documents are not in English, they must be translated and officially certified.

   • The University of Prince Edward Island has the option to offer admission on certain conditions to a graduate applicant who is exceptionally qualified but falls slightly short of meeting the minimum English language proficiency requirement for their desired graduate program.
     This conditional admission allows the student to obtain a study permit if required and start their studies in the UPEI Graduate English Academic Preparation (GEAP) program. After successfully completing the required courses in the Graduate EAP program, the student will then transition directly into their chosen graduate degree program.
3. Supporting Documents: The majority of graduate programs require additional supporting documents, such as personal statements, portfolios, interviews, work experience, GMAT or GRE scores, evidence of scholarly achievement, letters of recommendation, and a resume/CV. These documents can help provide a comprehensive overview of the applicant’s qualifications and experiences.
   • Many of the graduate programs are research/thesis-based, hence applicants shall choose a potential supervisor.

Tuition, Fees, and Refund Policy

Tuition:

1. Undergraduate Program Tuition: $14,838 CAD per year
2. Graduate Program Tuition: 
   • Master Degree Programs Tuition: Ranges between $25,240 CAD – $30,360 CAD per program
     • Eg. Master in Engineering Tuition: $25,940 CAD for the whole program
     • Eg. Master of Applied Health Services Research Tuition: $30,360 CAD for the whole program
     • Eg. Master of Nursing Tuition: $25,940 CAD for the whole program
3. PhD Degree Programs Tuition: $37,845 CAD per program
4. Co-op Program Tuition:

5. Tuition Deposit: To enroll in classes, new students must submit a non-refundable deposit of $1,000. This deposit will be credited towards any upcoming fees on the student’s account.

Refund Policy: 

Should an applicant not successfully obtain their study permit, they will be required to provide proof of their declined study permit to be eligible for a refund.

The University will refund the deposit minus an administrative processing charge of $500 CAD if applicants request a refund prior to the start of the academic semester.

For requests made after the start of the academic semester, a non-refundable administrative fee of $1,000.00 will be applied, and this amount will be deducted from the total tuition refund.

• Upon deciding not to attend UPEI despite being granted a study permit, students are required to fill out a notification form which will incur a non-refundable administrative fee of $3,000. This fee will be deducted automatically from any eligible tuition refunds.

2. Bill and Denise Andrew Hall: Bill and Denise Andrew Hall is a newer residence building that offers apartment-style living for upper-year students. It consists of fully furnished suites with private bedrooms, shared living areas, kitchen facilities, and bathroom facilities.
3. Bernardine Hall: Bernardine Hall is a residence building primarily designated for first-year students. It offers suite-style living with shared bedrooms and shared bathroom facilities. Each suite also has a common living area and kitchenette.
4. UPEI’s New Residence: UPEI’s New Residence comprises two towers that house apartment-style accommodations and lounges. Certain apartments within the residence come furnished with a complete kitchen. Other apartments have a kitchenette, offering a convenient option for first-year students.
   This setup allows residents the flexibility to cook whenever desired, while also having a meal plan available to ensure ample time for studying and class preparation.
