University of Debrecen Medical School:

University of Debrecen Medical School was the first department established in the University of Debrecen.

The university officially opened on October 23, 1918, and at that time consisted of four faculties: Arts, Sciences, Theology, and Medicine.

The Medical School became an independent medical faculty under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Hungary in 1951.

The Medical School serves the city of Debrecen as a hospital, so students of higher courses also receive their clinical training here.

The Medical School started medical education in English with 49 students in 1987.

Dentistry at the University of Debrecen:

This faculty offers internationally recognized education with high standards and aims to train professional dentists who are confident in working worldwide.

The faculty complies with the requirements of the European Union, and the degree obtained is accepted in all EU countries and several other countries around the world.

After the establishment of prosthodontics, periodontics, and anatomy departments, the faculty introduced fields of dental biochemistry and dental medicine.

In 2000, restorative dentistry, surgery, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, and pathology became part of the dental studies curriculum.

The Dentistry program for English-speaking students was established in 2003, and currently, the Faculty of Dentistry has over 700 international students.

The faculty participates in the Erasmus program, allowing students to spend a semester or a full academic year at foreign universities in Europe.

In 1996, the Accreditation Committee of Hungary awarded the title of “Center of Excellence” to this faculty due to its achievements in education, research, and medical care.

Faculty of Dentistry, Debrecen The degree awarded upon completion of studies is Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), often abbreviated as Dr (DMD).

Education System in Dentistry at the University of Debrecen:

This five-year program is carefully structured to ensure high standards of knowledge, skills, and responsibilities of dental surgeons.

To provide successful and safe patient care, students must have sufficient motor skills to work with manual and electrical instruments.

Students should be able to perform touch, percussion, hearing, and other diagnostic methods.

Students must have good gross motor skills and a fine sense of touch and vision.

Students are required to work with all dental equipment, including both high and low-speed handpieces.

Students should be able to take an accurate medical and dental history from patients.

Students should be able to analyze and interpret X-ray and radiographic images necessary for proper diagnosis.

Students should be able to conduct a visual and tactile dental examination, including the observation of shape, color, and abnormalities, both externally and inside the oral cavity.

Students should be able to discuss patients’ problems and treatment, gather and exchange information, guide patients during treatment, and make recommendations to patients.

Students must possess positive personal qualities such as respect, understanding, and attention to others, and they should also exhibit professional behavior.

 

Pharmacy at the University of Debrecen:

Pharmacy education operates within a joint program between the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Debrecen and the former University of Lajos Kossuth, initiated with the approval of the National Accreditation Committee and the Higher Education Council in 1996.

Tuition Refund Policy at the University of Debrecen:

In case of overpayment by a student, the student can request a refund in accordance with the regulations specified in Appendix V – Special Rules and Regulations for English Programs.

Non-refundable fees include:

The distance to the city center and the Great Forest is approximately 15 minutes and 5 minutes of walking, respectively.

Both buildings are surrounded by a park where dormitory residents can study and relax in a beautiful and pleasant environment. This park is adorned with stairs and fruit gardens.

At the top of both buildings, there is a rooftop area with several benches. The apartment-style student dormitory near the main university area can accommodate up to 300 guests.

These buildings are constructed with modern technologies and mostly consist of one-room apartments, with some two and three-room apartments. Each unit includes a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, electric stove, and dishes, a study room, a bathroom and a toilet, a hall, and a balcony.

Each apartment is fully furnished and equipped with a telephone line, a television, and an internet connection. In the basement, services such as a computer room, a gym, a sauna, and more are available.

Leading research laboratories are actively engaged in the foundation of the Center for Molecular Medicine Research, which combines fundamental research with applied research and technology development.
